Galerie Maximillian is located at 602 East Cooper Avenue, between Hunter and Spring Streets in downtown Aspen, Colorado.  With over 40 years of experience in the fine art market, we pride ourselves on having a friendly and knowledgeable team of art consultants who are passionate about what we do and want the experience of collecting fine art to be fun as well as informative.  Museum quality, custom framing is included with all acquisitions.

The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or by appointment.

Albert Sanford
Owner
Galerie Maximillian owner Albert Sanford has been a fine art collector and dealer for over 27 years. He acquired his first work of art - a Vintage French poster - at 16 years of age and then while studying in Paris at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques became a private dealer of rare vintage posters. In February of 1982, People Magazine wrote an article naming Albert as an "up and coming art collector and dealer."

After graduating from Middlebury College in Vermont with a M.S. in French and Political Science, Albert continued to develop his skills as an art dealer at Merrill Chase Galleries, an internationally renowned group of galleries owned by the Pritzker family of Chicago. While there, he developed a passion and expertise for fine prints, mounted several museum quality exhibitions and ultimately became the President and CEO.

In 1997 Albert and his wife Dorothy Wildman moved permanently to Aspen to open Galerie Maximillian. His concept for the gallery is to present important historic masterworks on paper alongside contemporary European work with an emphasis on Young British Artists. The gallery's philosophy is simple: "We would not present anything in the gallery that we would not be comfortable hanging in our own home. We want our friends and clients to be excited about visiting our gallery in Aspen and hope that we can share our passion for fine art with them."

In addition to dealing in fine art, Albert enjoys skiing, biking, occasional golf, travel and walking Max and Gus on the Rio Grande Trail.

Anne Chapman
Art Consultant
A 18 year resident of Aspen, Anne earned her B.A. at Middlebury College where she studied English, political science and studio art with a special emphasis in printmaking. Raised in Burlington, VT, her passion for both art and skiing drew her to Aspen in the Fall of 1989 after a stint in the art business in NYC. Her Aspen endeavors in the arts include the positions of Sales Director of the Barney Wyckoff Gallery and executive director of the Aspen/Snowmass Council for the Arts.  Currently she sits on the Board of the Wyley Community Art Center in Basalt.  She enjoys rafting, hiking and mountain biking, is a former ski racer and a fully certified ski instructor on Aspen Mountain.

Michelle Bryan
Art Consultant
A 14 year resident of the valley, Michelle joined the gallery in the fall of 2002.  Have spent a lifetime of hanging out in museums and galleries around the world, her passion and enthusiasm for fine art has put her on a path to becoming an expert.   “Being surrounded by art puts a smile on your face every day.”  Michelle calls herself lucky for having been raised in a home that did just that.  “It was such a gift and one that is with me forever.” Her time outside of the gallery is spent with her husband and new baby, her horse and two dogs.  She enjoys living in the mountains - hiking, skiing and riding are some of her many hobbies.

Gus and Sophie
Hospitality
On most days you will be welcomed to Galerie Maximillian by Gus and Sophie (a.k.a. Princess Sophia, the gallery’s real owner and offical frame destroyer!).  When not greeting collectors in the gallery, both dogs enjoy walks on the golf course and chasing squirrels, chipmunks and other small critters.
